  • Introduction
  • About the lab: The Autonomous Systems Lab (ASL) (自主系統實驗室) at CityU is directed by Prof. Yuxiang Sun (Chinese Name: 孫宇翔). Our lab studies AI-powered Robots and Autonomous systems, with a focus on Embodied AI and Autonomous Driving. Our mission is to create perception and control systems that enable autonomous robots to move, act and interact reliably in complex real-world environments at a large scale. Our lab has received funding support from a variety of sponsors, such as the University Grants Committee (大學教育資助委員會), Research Grants Council of Hong Kong (香港研究資助局), Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Commission (香港創新科技署), National Natural Science Foundation of China (国家自然科学基金委员会), Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province (广东省科学技术厅), Huawei (华为), and Baidu (百度), etc. Our lab has also proudly received the highly-competitive Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) four times.

Our keywords: Robotics and Embodied AI, Robot Learning, Vision-Language Action (VLA), Vision-Language Navigation (VLN), Open-Vocabulary Mobile Manipulation (OVMM), Autonomous Navigation, Autonomous Driving, Localization and Mapping, Robotic Perception and Control, Quadruped Robots, Humanoid Robots, Mobile Robots, etc.

Short biography of PI: Yuxiang Sun is currently an Assistant Professor with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, City University of Hong Kong (CityU). He has been named among the World’s Top 2% Most-Cited Scientists by Stanford University for four consecutive years, from 2022 to 2025. He was selected as the Global Top Chinese Young Scholars in AI (Top 50 in AI+X), AI华人青年学者榜, by Baidu in 2022. He serves as an Associate Editor of several prestigious journals and conferences: IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems (TITS), IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering (TASE), IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Vehicles (TIV), IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (RAL), IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), and IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS). He is a senior member of IEEE.
